The job that costs you when it slips

A change of director is not just a handshake. Companies House has to be told within 14 days, the statutory registers have to be updated, the change has to be properly authorised under your articles, and new directors now have to verify their identity.

Skip a step and you can have a board that does not match the public record, a missed deadline, or a removal that was not done lawfully. For something this fundamental, it pays to have it handled cleanly.

  • A 14-day deadline to notify Companies House
  • Statutory registers that must be kept in step
  • Appointments that have to be properly authorised
  • Director removals with extra legal requirements
  • Identity verification now needed for new directors
  • PSC changes that can ride alongside a board change
What we do

Hand it over, and consider it handled

When a director joins or leaves a company, Companies House must be told within 14 days, using form AP01 to appoint or TM01 to terminate. The company also has to update its register of directors, and new directors now need to complete identity verification.

We handle the filing, make sure the change is properly authorised and recorded in your statutory registers, and guide new directors through identity verification, so the change is clean, compliant and on the public record correctly.

Still deciding?

The honest answers to what you’re thinking

Can I not just file the AP01 myself?

You can, but it is easy to miss the register update, the authorisation step or the identity verification that now goes with it. We handle the whole change so the public record, your registers and the verification all line up.

Is removing a director straightforward?

Sometimes. A voluntary resignation is simple. Removing a director who does not agree involves specific procedures under the Companies Act, and we will advise on those before anything is filed.

What if the change happened months ago?

We can still file it and bring your registers up to date. The sooner late changes are corrected, the better, and we will sort it quickly.

Does a new director need anything from their side?

Mainly identity verification and a few personal details. We make that part as painless as possible and guide them through it.

FAQ

Director Appointment & Resignation questions, answered

How do I appoint a new director?
A new director is appointed in line with your articles, then notified to Companies House on form AP01 within 14 days, and added to your register of directors. New directors must also complete identity verification. We handle the filing, the register and the verification for you.
How do I remove or resign a director?
A director resignation or removal is filed on form TM01 within 14 days and recorded in your statutory registers. Removing a director against their will has extra legal steps under the Companies Act, and we will flag that if it applies.
Is there a deadline?
Yes. Companies House must be told within 14 days of a director being appointed or leaving. We file promptly so you stay inside the window.
Do new directors really need identity verification?
Yes. Under the new Companies House rules, directors must verify their identity. We guide new appointees through GOV.UK One Login or verify them directly so the appointment is not held up.
What about PSC changes?
If a director is also a Person with Significant Control, or a change affects who controls the company, the PSC register and filings need updating too. We check this and handle it alongside the director change.
