Sound familiar?

The bits no one warns you about

When you’re self-employed, the tax doesn’t take care of itself. Every pound of expense you forget, every deadline you miss, and every guess about what to set aside comes straight out of your pocket.

Most sole traders end up either overpaying — because they didn’t know what to claim — or scrambling in January, hoping they’ve got it right. It doesn’t have to be that way.

  • No employer sorting your tax — it’s all on you
  • Not knowing which expenses you’re allowed to claim
  • Guessing how much to set aside for the bill
  • The 31 January panic, every single year
  • Payments on account catching you by surprise
  • Making Tax Digital for Income Tax on the way
How we help

Everything handled, under one roof

Being self-employed is brilliant, until the admin lands on you. There’s no payroll department doing your tax, no one telling you what you can claim, and a 31 January deadline that always arrives faster than you expect.

We give sole traders and freelancers a dedicated accountant who takes all of it off your plate — your tax return, your bookkeeping, your expenses and the planning to keep your bill down — for one simple fixed monthly fee.

No more January panic

Your return is prepared and filed in good time, with your bill confirmed months before it’s due.

Know what to set aside

Clear figures for what you’ll owe and when — including payments on account — so a tax bill never blindsides you again.

A real accountant on call

A named accountant who knows your work and answers your questions — not a helpline or an app.

Wherever you are

Looking for a self employed accountant near you?

When you search for a self employed accountant near me, you’re usually after someone who understands sole-trader tax, replies quickly, and won’t cost you half a day travelling to an office. We give you exactly that — a named accountant for the self-employed, working with you online, anywhere in the UK.

Everything runs securely in the cloud, so “near you” becomes a quick call, video chat or message rather than a trip across town. Whether you’re in London, Bristol, Glasgow, Leeds or a rural spot with no good local firm, you get the same fixed monthly fee and the same person who knows your work.

The result is faster answers at Self Assessment time, no travelling, and an accountant picked for fit instead of postcode. Book a free consultation and we’ll walk you through how it works.

Still deciding?

The honest answers to what you’re thinking

How much is an accountant for a self-employed person?

It varies with how much support you need, which is why we agree a fixed monthly fee up front after a free quote. For many sole traders it’s a modest amount that pays for itself in the tax we save and the time we hand back.

Should I get an accountant if I’m self-employed?

If your affairs are very simple you can manage alone, and we’ll say so honestly. But once you have real expenses, growing income, or you simply value your time, an accountant usually saves more than the fee — and removes the stress entirely.

I’ve only just started / I’m tiny — is it worth it?

Yes. Getting set up correctly from the start, registered with HMRC and claiming the right expenses early, saves money and headaches later. We scale what we do to your size.

I want occasional help, not a big commitment.

That’s fine. We can simply handle your annual Self Assessment, or take on the full monthly job — whatever suits how you work. And switching to us from another accountant is quick and painless.

FAQ

Self-employed & sole traders: your questions answered

How much does an accountant cost for the self-employed?
Across the UK, a self-employed tax return alone typically costs from around £150 to £400+ VAT, while full ongoing support is more. We charge a fixed monthly fee tailored to you and quoted up front — so you always know the cost before any work starts.
What is the 24-month rule for the self-employed?
It’s a travel-expense rule: you can usually claim travel to a temporary workplace, but once you expect to work at one place for more than 24 months it’s treated as permanent and the travel is no longer allowable. We make sure your travel and other expenses are claimed correctly.
What expenses can I claim as a sole trader?
It depends on your trade, but commonly: equipment and tools, business travel, use of home, phone and internet, software, professional fees and certain training. We review your situation to claim everything you’re entitled to.
Do I need an accountant if I’ve just gone self-employed?
You don’t have to have one, but getting registered with HMRC correctly, choosing the right records and claiming from day one saves money and stress. We’re happy to get you started.
Do you work with self-employed clients across the UK?
Yes — we’re an online practice serving the self-employed everywhere in the UK. Everything is handled securely in the cloud, so your location makes no difference.
