IR35 & contract reviews

IR35 accountants — know your status, protect your take-home

IR35 decides how much of your day rate you actually keep. We review your contracts and how you really work, give you a clear status, and structure things correctly so you’re confident and compliant.

  • Fixed monthly fee
  • Xero, QuickBooks & FreeAgent certified
  • A named accountant, not a portal

What’s included

Everything, for one fixed fee

  • Contract review. We assess the written contract against the IR35 tests and flag the clauses that help or harm your status.
  • Working-practices review. How you actually work matters more than the paper — we review substitution, control and mutuality of obligation.
  • Status determination support. A clear, evidenced view of your position, and help responding to a client’s or agency’s SDS.
  • Structure & take-home. If you’re outside IR35, we structure salary, dividends and expenses to keep as much of your rate as the rules allow.

The job that costs you when it slips

IR35 is where contractors quietly lose money. A single bad clause, or working practices that don’t match your contract, can push you inside the rules and strip a large chunk out of your day rate.

And the risk doesn’t end when the contract does — HMRC can look back at engagements years later. Without an evidenced position, you’re exposed to tax, interest and penalties on income you’ve already spent.

  • Not knowing whether you’re inside or outside IR35
  • A contract with clauses that quietly harm your status
  • Working practices that don’t match what the paper says
  • A client SDS that puts you inside — possibly wrongly
  • No evidence to fall back on if HMRC reviews you later
  • A general accountant guessing rather than advising
What we do

Hand it over, and consider it handled

IR35 — the off-payroll working rules — decides whether HMRC sees you as genuinely in business on your own account or effectively an employee of your client for tax. Get it wrong and you can hand back a large slice of your income, or face an HMRC enquiry years later.

We review the contract you’ve been offered and, just as importantly, how you actually work day to day — substitution, control and mutuality of obligation — then give you a clear, evidenced view of your status and how to structure your affairs around it.

Still deciding?

The honest answers to what you’re thinking

Do I really need an IR35 review?

If you contract through a limited company, yes — IR35 is the single biggest factor in your take-home, and an evidenced position protects you from a costly HMRC enquiry later. A review almost always costs less than getting it wrong.

How much does it cost?

IR35 reviews are offered on a fixed fee agreed up front, and are usually included for our ongoing contractor clients. You always know the cost before we begin.

My client says I’m inside IR35 — can anything be done?

Possibly. We review the basis of the determination against how you actually work and, where it’s wrong, help you challenge it with a reasoned, evidenced case.

Is this just for IT contractors?

No — we review IR35 for contractors across IT, engineering, consultancy, interim management and more. The rules apply wherever someone works through their own company for clients.

FAQ

IR35 & Contract Reviews questions, answered

What does an IR35 accountant do?
An IR35 accountant reviews your contracts and how you actually work, gives you an evidenced view of whether you fall inside or outside the off-payroll rules, and structures your salary, dividends and records correctly around that status so you stay compliant and tax-efficient.
How much does an IR35 contract review cost?
We offer IR35 reviews on a fixed fee agreed up front, and for our ongoing contractor clients a review is usually included as part of the monthly service. Either way you know the cost before we start.
What is the difference between inside and outside IR35?
Outside IR35 means you’re genuinely in business on your own account and can be paid through your company tax-efficiently. Inside IR35 means HMRC treats the income essentially like employment, with PAYE-style tax — leaving you with significantly less of your rate.
Can you challenge a client’s status determination?
Yes. If a client or agency has determined you’re inside IR35 and you believe that’s wrong, we review the basis of their decision and help you make a reasoned, evidenced challenge.
Should I get my contract reviewed before signing?
Ideally yes. Reviewing before you sign means problem clauses can be negotiated out and your working practices lined up correctly from day one — far easier than fixing it after the engagement has started.
