Sound familiar?

The bits no one warns you about

A Shopify payout is never your sales figure. By the time it reaches your bank it’s net of Shopify Payments fees, PayPal and Stripe charges, refunds, chargebacks and gateway reserves — paid out across different schedules that rarely line up with your orders.

Try to reconcile that with a spreadsheet and a high-street accountant, and your real profit and your VAT both blur. That’s how Shopify sellers scale a loss-making product or get caught out by a cross-border VAT bill.

  • Multiple gateways (Shopify Payments, PayPal, Stripe) paying out separately
  • Transaction fees, refunds and chargebacks netted off your payouts
  • App and subscription costs eating into margin
  • VAT on UK and EU (OSS) sales, plus digital-goods rules
  • Multi-channel sales feeding back into one store
  • Cost-of-goods and inventory that never tie to the payout
How we help

Everything handled, under one roof

Shopify makes selling easy and the accounting deceptively hard. Shopify Payments, PayPal and other gateways each pay out on their own schedule, net of transaction fees, refunds and chargebacks — and that’s before you add app subscriptions, multi-channel sales and VAT across borders.

We’re specialist Shopify accountants. We connect your store and gateways to cloud software, reconcile every payout properly, handle UK and EU VAT, and show you the profit you’re really making — by product and by channel.

Still deciding?

The honest answers to what you’re thinking

How much does a Shopify accountant cost?

We agree a fixed monthly fee based on your sales volume, gateways and VAT footprint. For most stores it’s comfortably less than the margin we recover once your payouts and VAT are actually reconciled.

Why can’t my normal accountant handle Shopify?

They can do the year-end basics, but Shopify’s gateway payouts, transaction fees, refunds and cross-border VAT have quirks general accountants routinely miss — and getting them wrong is where store owners lose money.

Do I need to register for VAT to sell on Shopify?

Not until your taxable turnover passes £90,000 in a rolling 12-month period. Once you do, you charge UK VAT, can reclaim the VAT on your Shopify and app fees, and we handle the quarterly returns.

I sell into the EU as well — can you handle that?

Yes. We deal with cross-border VAT, the EU OSS scheme and digital-goods rules, so your international Shopify sales stay compliant.

FAQ

Shopify sellers: your questions answered

What does a Shopify accountant do?
We handle the accounting built around running a Shopify store: connecting Shopify and your payment gateways to cloud software, reconciling your payouts, tracking transaction and app fees, managing UK and EU VAT, filing your accounts and tax, and reporting your true profit by product.
How much does an accountant cost for a Shopify business?
It depends on your sales volume, the gateways you use and your VAT position. We quote a fixed monthly fee up front so there are no surprises as you scale — and it usually costs less than the profit we uncover by getting your fees and VAT right.
Is my Shopify payout the same as my profit?
No. Your payout is what’s left after Shopify Payments, PayPal or Stripe deduct their fees, refunds and chargebacks — and it ignores your app costs, cost-of-goods and VAT. We reconcile it all so you see the real number.
How does VAT work for Shopify sellers?
Once you’re VAT registered you charge 20% UK VAT on UK sales, can reclaim the VAT on your Shopify and app fees, and account for EU sales through the OSS scheme where relevant. We handle the lot, MTD-compliant.
Can you reconcile Shopify Payments and PayPal?
Yes — we connect every gateway you use to cloud accounting software so each payout reconciles automatically, with the fees, refunds and chargebacks correctly split out. No more manual CSV exports.
Can you take over from my current accountant?
Yes, and we manage the whole handover for you — most Shopify sellers are up and running with us within a couple of weeks.
